Dinosaur Fossils in America

Western North America is among the greatest sources of dinosaur fossil finds. Paleontologists like Miranda’s parents seem to pull complete skeletons from digs routinely in the Western United States, from Texas to Montana. The rock layer which is found below the Earth is known as the Morrison formation. According to the National Geographic Society, this is the most productive source of these fossils on the continent where popular dinosaurs like Brontosaurus and Stegosaurus had first been found.

China is the main place for Cretaceous Fossils

There have been a huge number of fossils unearthed in China, particularly in the recent decades. According to Paleontologist Phillip Manning’s book “Grave Secrets of Dinosaurs” (National Geographic, 2008), there is a rock formation in the Liaoning province northwest of Beijing which has been the specific hotspot for dinosaur.

The site seems to have hosted almost 20 million years of early Cretaceous fossils with wonderfully detailed fossils of feathered dinosaurs, like the Sinosauropteryx. They have spurred a scientific re-evaluation of the relationship between birds and dinosaurs.

Deserts shield fossils from ordinary elements in Argentina

Argentina and its nearby deserts consist of rich fossil bank which is compared to North America. This is due to the fact that the “desert” kind environment shields fossils avoid them from getting covered by plant matter. Along with that, appropriate conditions and prehistoric marshlands are considered to be great retaining sites for the fossils.

Dinosaur fossils in the UK

It might surprise you to know that more dinosaurs fossils are found across the pleasant and green land of the UK than in 190-odd other countries. Most of the dinosaur fossils in the UK are discovered in the Southern England which are coastal sites like the Jurassic Coast of Dorset; the Isle of Wight, the clay quarries of Surrey (Baryonyx); and the clay and limestonbe quarries of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds.

The first dinosaur bone that has been described in scientific literature from Megalosaurus was actually recovered from a limestone quarry in Oxfordshire in 1676. On the other hand, almost 200 years later the remains of Camptosaurus had been discovered in a brick and tile works near Oxford.
